What Is The Indianapolis 500

Many people who are not familiar might be asking, “What is the Indianapolis 500?”  The Indianapolis 500 is a car race held in Indianapolis, Indiana, every year over Memorial Day weekend, and is one of racings most popular events.  The race’s name makes reference to it’s length- 500 miles.  No, the drivers don’t drive a 500 mile long track.  They complete 200 laps around a 2.5 mile track to complete 500 miles.

The Indianapolis 500, also known as the Indy 500, attracts 400,000 spectators every year, and even more watch the event of television.  33 drivers qualify for the race, but only one can be the winner.
